About The Structured Scoop
Once upon a time, a finance lawyer and a former costume designer decided to write about capital markets. It wasn’t the obvious choice – but somehow, it works.
We’re the team behind The Structured Scoop, a small (but mighty) editorial duo based in London. One of us knows everything about securitisation, trustee structures, and documents with too many schedules. The other knows everything about rewriting things that are far too long.
Together, we explore the world of debt, derivatives, and the slightly mysterious art of structured finance – one article at a time. Some pieces begin life as legal notes, others as late-night rants or curious questions. Every article is a joint effort – part legal experience, part editorial instinct –shaped into something clear, useful, and (we hope) worth reading.
Clarity
We explain the complex so it makes sense — no jargon, no fluff.
Credibility
Our insights are grounded in experience and serious research.
Curiosity
We ask the questions that make finance interesting again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who writes The Structured Scoop?
We do – The Lawyer and The Wordsmith. All articles are published under The Structured Scoop, but it’s very much a two-person operation (plus an imaginary intern, occasionally blamed for typos).
THE LAWYER
A veteran solicitor with decades of experience in structured finance, who’s spent much of his career swimming in the deep end of global capital markets – and collecting enough coffee-stained documents to wallpaper the Shard. Eventually decided it was time to share that knowledge with the world, with less legalese, more clarity, and just enough wit to keep things moving. Possesses a memory for contractual clauses that defies logic and often mutters “it depends” in his sleep.
THE WORDSMITH
A former costume designer turned writer, editor, and full-time explainer of things she definitely didn’t study at university. No formal legal training, but an instinctive grasp of when a clause sounds like it was written during a thunderstorm. Rewrites everything twice and has a knack for turning complexity into something you might actually want to read. Not afraid to ask every “stupid” question so you don’t have to.
Is this for beginners or professionals?
Both. We write for trainees, curious readers, seasoned professionals, and anyone who’s ever googled “what is a repo?” and hoped for a better answer.
Do you give advice?
No – just explanations. For actual advice, you’ll need a lawyer, accountant, or financial advisor (who charges by the hour and frowns at jokes). Contact us if you need recommendations.
Can I suggest a topic?
Please do. We love good questions. Drop us a line and we’ll add it to our ever-growing “things we should definitely write about” list.
